Abstract
This dissertation examines the extraordinary longevity and well-being outcomes observed in the Fuller family of Montgomery, Alabama, where multiple members have lived 25-30 years beyond the life expectancy of their birth cohorts. Through mixed-methods research combining narrative analysis with demographic data, this study identifies key factors contributing to this statistically improbable outcome.
The research reveals four primary pillars—Banking (resource stewardship), Belief (faith and purpose), Breathing (stress management and presence), and Blessing (service to others)—that have been transmitted across generations. These findings align with and extend existing research on purpose and longevity, religious participation and health, and the protective effects of community connection.
The study concludes with the development of the "B Curriculum," a practical framework for replicating these resilience factors, which has been implemented in 134 countries through the Voice Up organization. Implications for public health policy, education, and community development are discussed.
