Uncle Charlie

The Servant Leader & Innovator from Lowndes County

Charlie Mac Douglass Jr.

Uncle Charlie, Charlie Mac Douglass Jr., grew up in Lowndes County, Alabama, in the years of segregation. As a boy he walked miles to school, and the endurance those walks built stayed with him for the rest of his life.

He served his country, and when his service was done, he came home and taught for decades, giving generations of students the education he had once walked so far to reach.

In 1966 he married Theresa Gardner Douglass, and their marriage lasted 57 years. Together they raised their children, Kimberly Charletta and Charles Donahue, in a family held together by faith and quiet strength.
